Useful start-up settings for Matlab

Some useful (start-up) settings for Matlab that I just learned today:

  • Improve quality of Matlab plots, especially for exporting to EPS:
    set(0, ...
    'defaultaxesfontsize', 12, ...
    'defaultaxeslinewidth', 0.7, ...
    'defaultlinelinewidth', 0.8, ...
    'defaultpatchlinewidth', 0.7)
  • Format of number displays:
    format long g
    format compact
  • Turn on grid by default:set(0,'defaultAxesXGrid','on');
    set(0,'defaultAxesYGrid','on');
    set(0,'defaultAxesZGrid','on');
